National Oilwell Varco (NOV) is a worldwide leader in providing major mechanical components for land and offshore drilling rigs, complete land drilling and well-servicing rigs, tubular inspection and internal tubular coatings, drill string equipment, extensive lifting and handling equipment, and a broad offering of downhole drilling motors, bits, and tools. National Oilwell Varco also provides supply chain services through its network of distribution service centers located near major drilling and production activity worldwide.

The Business Challenge:

NOV turned to Element K for help with a sales tool they wanted to develop. The tool was to be used on an HD screen at their product booth as an eye-catching looping display showing their newest tools. In addition, they wanted their sales reps to be able to use their laptops to stop the loop and to drill down further into product specifications making it a sales presentation tool as well. The dual-purpose tool needed to run on either the HD screen or a laptop screen and it had to be easy to configure and use from the sales rep view. It also needed to have the ability to show either a high-level overview of the products available or very specific data about a particular tool.

Solution:

A tiered solution was presented where the high-level overview content was considered level 1, the overview of each product line was level 2, and the tool specifications could be found on level 3. The user could select any section of the presentation to show in either a loop or screen-by-screen. The image above shows the user interface that was designed for this project.
